Frozen food market
With rising incomes and faster paces of life, China's frozen food industry has grown rapidly. Since the 1990s, annual output has increased by more than 20%, making it a rising star in the food industry.
In 2011, after intense mergers and acquisitions, the number of enterprises in China's frozen food industry decreased significantly, from 342 in 2010 to 234 in 2011. However, the overall industry efficiency improved, production and sales expanded, total profits increased, and the overall industry development was positive. In the first quarter of 2012, the number of enterprises increased from 234 to 259. Data shows that in 2011, China's frozen food industry achieved a total industrial output value of 53.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 21.28%; in the first quarter of 2012, the industry achieved an industrial output value of 13.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.84%. From 2009 to 2011, the average annual growth rate of the industry's total output value reached 22.13%, showing a trend of rapid growth.
In terms of sales revenue, in 2011, the frozen food industry achieved sales revenue of 54.099 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 28.97%, and a total profit of 3.863 billion yuan; in the first quarter of 2012, the industry achieved sales revenue of 13.467 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.27%, and a profit of 934 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 27.27%. The average annual growth rate of sales revenue over the past three years reached 24.30%, showing a trend of rapid growth.
From 2009 to 2012, the production and sales rate of China's frozen food industry remained above 90%, with good production and sales coordination. The production and sales rate was 100.93% in 2009, 100.80% in 2011, and 100.93% in the first half of 2012, reflecting a situation of product supply shortage in the frozen food industry.
